DIY Dress & Pattern Review B5950 + Blazer Lesson #2

Happy Monday Darlings,

Today is a glorious day and I have a lunch date with my daughter. We are going to eat and watch a matinee showing of Captain Phillips. I am also truly in love with my metallic dress! THIS FABRIC is just amazing and feels so good on. The metallic foil print is soft and stretches nicely. If you purchase the fabric HERE make sure to use my coupon code "mimi10"

DIY Metallic Knit Dress (similar) HERE / Zara Gold Heels (similar) HERE

Pattern: B5950

Fabric Used: ITY Foil Print purchased HERE It is so fab and drapes like a dream. Make sure you use my coupon! "MIMI10"

Pattern Sizing: I cut the 8

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope when you were done? Yep

Were the instructions easy to follow? This is a pretty quick and easy dress to sew up. The instructions are clear and basic.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I liked the style of the dress and I knew it would look great in my fabric. Simple pattern for a stand out fabric. I did not use elastic in the waist as they suggested and just inserted the zipper. The fabric is a stretch knit but there is a waistline seam so pulling it on is not an option.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: None other then my usual grading down, the pattern has a lot of ease.

Would you sew it again? Yes I think I may do it again at some point.

Would you recommend it to others? Yes ;-)

Lesson 2 of our 5 part series is uploading as I type. For all those who already purchased just log on this afternoon as you did before to see the new video. You can start along at any time and watch all the videos that have already been published. 2. Lovely dress! You look awesome as usual.

SN: I am not a beginner but I am still enjoying the blazer course. You can always learn something from someone else and for me I am learning to be more efficient with time management. Apparently, I am learning that sometimes I work a little hard and not too smart when looking at how others put their garments together. With that being said, I think this course can be useful for intermediate sewers too.

You are doing awesome! Keep up the work!

    1. Size 8 in most patterns is always big so I have to adjust. Pattern sizes are way different then ready to wear sizes. In stores I am a 3/4

    1. 2 yards should do it. 1.5 might actually be enough but I added some length to mine.

  18. Hi Mimi,

I am looking to make a dress similar to this with a higher neckline and backless. Do you have any suggestions to what pattern I use to make this or should I attempt to make my own pattern? Or should I do it in two pieces (top and skirt) and make it into a one piece? I am a beginner/intermediate sewer but new to patterns. Thank you for your help in advance.
